Upcoming Releases
It's been a little while since we've talked about a release, as is the pattern we've had since the beginning. After discussing how 'odd' our release schedule is compared to most other projects today, we've made a few decisions.
First and foremost, we are absolutely continuing work on Yverdon, as well as moving forward with work on Rupley towards the end of the year. N2F remains very relevant to us and we still enjoy working on the code a lot more than is natural.
Secondly, we are going to be changing the versioning for the next release of Yverdon. We go through a lot of use-cases with each release before we get to another set of changes that we feel are worthy of an update. This seems to happen because of 2 things. We are strict in our adherence to the mission we have for N2F, and we take our time planning out what is going to be added/changed so that we aren't shifting direction or adding unnecessary code. The next release of Yverdon will receive version number 0.5, and the release following will be mostly a cleanup and documentation release dubbed v1.0.
We really do use Yverdon a lot, and we are having trouble finding new things to add that don't detract from the goals of being slim and fast. With the release of v1.0, we'll concentrate on bug fixes (as usual), documentation, tutorials and projects based on the framework.
Finally, to begin touching on projects that are based off of N2F, we will be announcing details about a new open source project built on top of Yverdon called Chameleon. Chameleon is a site framework (in a sense that more people will be familiar with) that provides some advanced code management features and an extensible user system. There will be a lot more detail on the project as we get closer to its release, but it is definitely something that has us excited.
Until next time, keep poking away and we look forward to finally pushing Yverdon to v1.0.
